Venezuela's Chavez Says U.S. Thirst for Oil Lies Behind Tension With Washington He said through conflict with his government, U.S. leaders want "to assure themselves those resources to support their irrational model of development, which at the same time means underdevelopment and misery for the majority of the world's people."

Innocent civilians, including people who are considered vital to building democracy, are increasingly being killed by U.S. troops.

Isreal Gets More Aid Then Any Other Country in the World From The US

$3 Billion: U.S. Aid to Israel: The Subject No One Mentions: U.S. aid to Israel has always been a touchy subject. Members of Congress never mention the total, probably for two reasons.

A Conservative Total for U.S. Aid to Israel: $91 Billion—and Counting : The common figure given for U.S. aid to Israel is $3 billion per year—$1.2 billion in economic aid and $1.8 billion in military aid. As impressive as this figure is, however, since it represents about one-sixth of total U.S. foreign aid

Treaty gives CIA powers over Irish citizens

By Dan Buckley
07/21/05 "
Irish Examiner" - - US INVESTIGATORS, including CIA agents, will be allowed interrogate Irish citizens on Irish soil in total secrecy, under an agreement signed between Ireland and the US last week.

Suspects will also have to give testimony and allow property to be searched and seized even if what the suspect is accused of is not a crime in Ireland.

Under 'instruments of agreement' signed last week by Justice Minister Michael McDowell, Ireland and the US pledged mutual co-operation in the investigation of criminal activity. It is primarily designed to assist America's so-called 'war on terror' in the wake of the September 11 atrocities.

The deal was condemned yesterday by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) as "an appalling signal of how the rights of Irish citizens are considered by the minister when engaging in international relations".

Huffington Post" - - My vacation has been remarkably eye-opening. Now, when travelers say things like that, they usually are talking about being introduced to new cultures, different foods, singular settings… but in my case, I’m talking about war. Specifically, how shockingly different the coverage of the war in Iraq is here in Europe compared to what we get back home.

It’s like a pair of blinders has been removed and I’m suddenly seeing for myself what I’ve long known to be the case: just how sanitized a version of the war the American mainstream media are delivering, and how little of even this cleaned-up coverage we get.

This site has links to stories told by soldiers and their problems. If you want to know the truth check it out. It has some extremely sad stories.

American Terror  By Chris Floyd
01/21/05 "
Moscow Times" -- More than two years ago, we wrote here of a secret Pentagon plan to foment terrorism by sending covert agents to infiltrate terrorist groups and goad them into action -- in other words, committing acts of murder and destruction. The purpose was two-fold: first, to bring the terrorist groups into the open, where they could be counterattacked; and second, to justify U.S. military attacks on the countries where the terrorists were operating -- attacks which, in the Pentagon's words, would put those nations' "sovereignty at risk." It was a plan that countenanced -- indeed, encouraged -- the deliberate murder of innocent people and the imposition of U.S. military rule anywhere in the world that U.S. leaders desired. This plan is now being activated.

Convoy of Death   Why have US television stations refused to broadcast this documentary?

In Afghanistan, filmmaker Jamie Doran has uncovered evidence of a massacre: Taliban prisoners of war suffocated in containers, shot in the desert under the watch of American troops.

The film has been broadcast on national television in countries all over the world and has been screened by the European parliament. Human rights lawyers are calling for investigation into whether U.S. forces are guilty of war crimes. But no U.S. media outlet has broadcast the film.

The Guardian" - - When terror strikes western capitals, it doesn't just blast bodies and buildings, it also blasts other sites of suffering off the media map. A massacre of Iraqi children, blown up while taking sweets from US soldiers, is banished deep into the inside pages of our newspapers. The outpouring of compassion for the daily deaths of thousands from Aids in Africa is suddenly treated as a frivolous distraction.

POLITICS-US:
Spy Agency Targets Bush Critics

William Fisher
NEW YORK, Jul 19 (IPS) - Those who remember recent history will not be surprised to learn that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been amassing files on the American Civil Liberties Union, Greenpeace and other critics of the George W. Bush administration.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, the FBI, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of Defence and other intelligence agencies had all conspired to engage in widespread spying on ordinary U.S. citizens -- and illegal covert operations.

The targets back then were left-wing groups and individuals, civil rights and anti-Vietnam activists and, of course, Pres. Richard Nixon's "enemies list".

Saddam Could Call CIA in His Defence

Evidence offered by a top CIA man could confirm the testimony given by Saddam Hussein at the opening of his trial in Baghdad Thursday that he knew of the Halabja massacre only from the newspapers.

LONDON, Jul 2 (
IPS) - Thousands were reported killed in the gassing of Iraqi Kurds in Halabja in the north of Iraq in March 1988 towards the end of Iraq's eight-year war with Iran. The gassing of the Kurds has long been held to be the work of Ali Hassan al-Majid, named in the West because of that association as 'Chemical Ali'. Saddam Hussein is widely alleged to have ordered Ali to carry out the chemical attack.

US-backed groups organize regime change in Iran  By Trish Schuh
Online Journal Contributing Writer July 19, 2005—Like the color-coded terror alert system, the technicolor Velvet Invasions blink warning. Despite receiving an ugly bruise in Uzbekistan, the CIA and its NGO (non-governmental organization) regime change industry hope to stage another cardboard coup in Iran. But it could be a Black & Blue Revolution.

Citing a 'mission accomplished' in Iraq, President Bush told 25,000 soldiers in Fort Hood, Texas; "The establishment of a free Iraq is a watershed event in the global democratic revolution. That success is sending a message from Beirut to Tehran."

Harbouring A Terrorist The case of Luis Posada Carriles  We can imagine that the ties that Bush meant to invoke were his big campaign donors and organizers amongst the reactionary elites of Little Havana (a.k.a. the Miami Mafia), and not the criminalized and harassed Haitian refugees, fleeing either the economic violence of colonialism or the brutal physical repression that has accompanied the coup regime of Gerard Latortue. The human rights disaster in occupied Haiti is one of the unmentionables for the U.S. and its allies at the OAS.

Another unmentionable subject for Bush is the case of perhaps the hemisphere’s most notorious terrorist, Luis Posada Carriles, who was recently detained in Florida for illegally entering the country from Mexico. The septuagenarian anti-Castro zealot has spent decades organizing terrorist violence against Cuba, and his history of collaboration with U.S. officials – he is a former CIA ‘asset’ -- illustrates the extreme hypocrisy of the "War on Terror".

The Mapuche Struggle Today: An Interview With Vladimir Painemal Morales

O'Keefe: In 1973, Salvador Allende’s democratically-elected government was overthrown by elements of the army with the backing of U.S. imperialism – which wanted to maintain its hold on Chilean copper, among other resources. What are the multinationals after in Mapuche territories, what are the key industries and resources that they are aiming to control?

Painemal: In both Argentina and Chile we had dictatorships, and now a so-called democratic process, democracies. But the dictatorships put in place an economic model, a neo-liberal model that opens up our markets to multinational investors.

Cruel twist to a failed policy But The Americans Put A Prison There????????

Published July 16, 2005

Of the myriad sanctions imposed by the U.S. on Cuba for almost 50 years, few are as cruel, vindictive and un-American as those that sharply limit Cuban-Americans from visiting their relatives on the island. Last month the U.S. House voted to uphold those sanctions, even after a year's worth of evidence of the hardship they have caused to Cubans on both sides of the Florida Straits.

The rules, issued by the Treasury Department, went into effect a year ago. They prohibit anyone residing in the U.S. from visiting relatives on the island. But the targets obviously are Cuban-Americans in the U.S., be they permanent residents or naturalized American citizens. Now they can visit Cuba only if they have immediate relatives--parents, siblings or children--there and for only 14 days, once every three years. Those who only have uncles, aunts, cousins or more distant relatives cannot visit at all.

When we kill them in droves, some of them will strike back. By Eric Margolis We are horrified that anyone would attack innocent civilians packed in subway cars. But the extremists and fanatics who do so say they are exacting revenge for the 500,000 Iraqi civilians who died, (confirmed by the UN), from the ten year US-British embargo of Iraq. For the criminal destruction in 1991 of Iraq’s water and sewage treatment plants that cause massive cholera and typhoid. Or for the occupation of Iraq and destruction of the city of Falluja that killed tens of thousands more civilians, and, of course, for Palestine.

Kenyans are fleeing the area where a massacre was carried out in the north-east village of Turbi in which 76 people died, fearing further attacks.

Hundreds of armed men surrounded Turbi primary school and nearby houses and opened fire as children were making their way to school early on Tuesday. Kenyans say the killers have fled north, towards Ethiopia. Of the 76 people killed in the frenzy of violence, 22 were children. Ten bandits are said to have died.

Dozens of villages have been abandoned as their hungry former residents go to towns or neighbouring countries, such as Benin or Nigeria in search of food.  "The situation is terrible," said Abdoulye Adamou, who has come to the city of Tahoua.

Angola witchcraft's child victims The conviction in Britain of three Angolans for the abuse of a girl they accused of being a witch has turned the spotlight on customs in Angola.  Angus Stickler of the BBC Radio 4 Today programme went to Angola to investigate the links between witchcraft, poverty and the rapid growth of churches preaching a powerful blend of traditional African beliefs and evangelical Christianity.

"These foot soldiers who have done this are only one element of an organization that is bringing about this kind of mayhem in our society," Home Secretary Charles Clarke told the BBC on Wednesday. Anti-gay vandals suspects in church arson Anti-gay graffiti and a fire at a Virginia church may be linked to the United Church of Christ's recent vote affirming same-sex marriage.
St. John's Reformed UCC in Middlebrook in western Virginia was vandalized Friday with anti-gay graffiti and the church was set on fire, but the blaze did not spread, according to the Rev. John Deckenback, United Church of Christ Central Atlantic Conference minister.
Police and church leaders said the arson likely was because of a July 4 vote by the denomination's General Synod supporting same-sex marriage.
"The violation of sacred space is traumatic for a congregation, particularly with a message of hate targets a church's efforts to reach out in the spirit of Christ's love of all people," UCC President the Rev. John Thomas said in a release.
Thomas said he knew the same-sex marriage vote would be controversial but "it sadden me that, for a few, disagreement has moved to acts of violence."
Two other churches in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley were vandalized about the time the United Church of Christ ran television ads welcoming all people, including homosexuals.

The Fall 2002 IR exposes the depth of the threat of ARL terrorism — earning ALF, ELF, and SHAC a level of infamy usually reserved for American extremist groups such as the KKK, Aryan Nation, and the American Nazi party.

Who Pays for War

The tax payer! Lucky them. Where do your taxes go?  How much is spent on WAR in a year like oh 450 Billion or more. That's only what you see on the outside. That doesn't include the money funneled in through other channels. But What do I know? Gnawing on the walls of paradise. Glass Houses. (Charity, Foreign Aid,) hundreds of ways to do it! . All of course have Strings attached to War. Apparently investing in war toys is extremely profitable. Of course the poor taxpayer, average citizen pays for it all. They get Poorer and the Rich reap the profits.  So In Whose best interest would it Be to keep the war going? Well he  who profits from it of course.  If you are making millions on war. Why stop it? Greed Speaking. Loud and Clear.

Don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

London Underground Bombing 'Exercises' Took Place at Same Time as Real Attack: Culpability cover scenario echoes 9/11 wargames

Former Blair Minister Points Out Al-Qaeda Cia Ties Robin Cook/London Guardian |  I have rarely seen the Commons so full and so silent as when it met yesterday to hear of the London bombings. A forum that often is raucous and rowdy was solemn and grave. A chamber that normally is a bear pit of partisan emotions was united in shock and sorrow. Even Ian Paisley made a humane plea to the press not to repeat the offence that occurred in Northern Ireland when journalists demanded comment from relatives before they were informed that their loved ones were dead.

Bin Laden was, though, a product of a monumental miscalculation by western security agencies. Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. Al-Qaida, literally "the database", was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians. Inexplicably, and with disastrous consequences, it never appears to have occurred to Washington that once Russia was out of the way, Bin Laden's organisation would turn its attention to the west.

What's Behind the London Attacks? The bombing of the London Underground was a false-flag operation designed to keep the West mired in war. Don't believe otherwise.
